As mentioned in an earlier post, we can now offer great full-full fuel rates with our supplier Solmar. Choose between two different rates: a full-empty rate and a full-full rate. Full-full means that you only pay for the fuel that you use. You’ll receive the vehicle with a full tank (or possibly 3/4 or 1/2 full)  but no initial fuel charge will be made. As long as you return the vehicle with no less fuel than on delivery, there will be no fuel charge. So just remember to top up your hire car before you deliver it back to Solmar prior to your departure. Ideal for visits of around a week or so long when you won’t be doing much driving!

We’re delighted to say that we can now offer a full-full fuel option for any length of hire with our supplier Solmar. On our quote page you’ll be presented with two prices for Solmar’s vehicles: the normal full-empty price and the new full-full fuel price. The full-full price is slightly higher than the full-empty price but if your hire period is not much longer than a week, and you won’t be doing much mileage, the full-full option should work out more economic. Happy New Year! 2012 has arrived and with it we’re seeing a very welcome growth in demand. Compared to the period before Christmas, the number of bookings we’re taking has seen a three-fold increase. If you are thinking of an Easter trip to Spain, we’d recommend booking a.s.a.p. as demand for vehicles is likely to outweigh availability, fleet numbers being low.

Is it possible to rent a car without a credit card? This is one of the questions we are asked by visitors to our website. In general, most car rental companies will only accept credit card payment. However, a couple of our suppliers are more flexible and will, at present at least, accept debit cards also (but not cash). Goldcar will accept payment by debit card for all of their vehicles provided that their maximum ‘top-up’ cover is taken out.  This cover is called ‘Relax’ and it includes tyres, windows, undercarriage, keys and all tow charges (and a few other things!). Automotive Cars will also accept debit card payment but only for their three smallest vehicle groups and provided that a 300 euros deposit is also left.

If you’re looking to rent an automatic vehicle during your stay in Spain, a few of our suppliers have these available in their fleets. However, the choice is much more limited for vehicles with automatic transmission than it is for manual vehicles, the majority of automatics being in the mid-sized Focus or similar group. That said, several of the car rental companies that we work with have a compact automatic and, notably, Centauro have a compact 7 seater automatic (Citroën C4 Grand Picasso or similar). Automatic people carriers are particularly hard to come by so we’re very happy that Centauro have included this type of vehicle in their fleet in recent years. Another company with a ‘healthy’ number of automatics in their fleet is Goldcar.

We are often asked if we can offer a discount on long term car rental in Spain. Well, we can, but the longest hire period we can quote for (as a single contract) is 90 days, this being the limit set by several of our suppliers (Goldcar and Centauro). Most other suppliers have shorter limits (e.g. 30 days), so hiring with them would involve renewing the contract on a regular basis. It is important to bear in mind that the rate applicable for the whole rental period is always that applicable at the start of each contract. This means that it is best to avoid starting a long term rental during a peak period (e.g. Christmas, Easter, summer high season) when rates are high. During the winter season we can normally offer very cheap long term rental. At present, for example, we can offer a 5 door compact at most locations for less than 200 euros per month.
